Mediterranean Shipping Company Rate Restoration on Greece / Turkey / Black Sea Trade as from May 1st 2011
Dear Customers and Partners,
PLATTS, the worlds’ foremost source of price assessments in physical energy markets, records the Antwerp Fuel price increasing from January 04th till April 1st by USD 137 per ton.
Antwerp is the bunkering port of the Greece and Turkey Trade Services and it is one of the cheapest ports in the world for bunkering.
1 TON x TEU is a good average fuel consumption indication for a round trip NWC/Greece-Turkey/NWC.
This means that we spend today USD 137 per TEU extra per round trip (Usd 68,5 Southbound and Usd 68,5 Northbound)
Practice shows that the BAF (or BUC) mechanism that worked for decades in more stable times, is completely upset and is hardly working in these days despite it is a fair, transparent system.
ALL IN RATES are the (natural) reply to the instable, ever increasing bunker cost despite Fuel represents a large percentage of the sea transport costs and it is boosting other extra costs: container costs, Ports costs, general costs etc.etc.
Because of the above reality we are obliged to “restore” our rates and recover a good part of the bunker cost erosion.
Therefore with effect May 1st the ALL IN RATES and THE BASIC SEA FREIGHT of the “BASIC SEA FREIGHT + BUC” which total is corresponding to the ALL IN RATES will be increased by:
SOUTHBOUND: EURO 40 - GBP 35 - USD 55 X TEU
NORTHBOUND: EURO 40 - GBP 35 - USD 55 X TEU
Our Agents will give you more details if required.
Thank you for your understanding and your support.
