August 17, 2001, Sergey Frank, Transport Minister of the Russian Federation, met in Moscow Zigmantas Balcitis, Transport and Communications Minister of the Lithuanian Republic.
The ministers exchanged views of the state and prospects of Russian-Lithuanian relations in the transport sphere talking into account prior agreements.
One of the central issues in the Russian-Lithuanian transport cooperation is ensuring efficient operations in Klaipeda and the ports of Kaliningrad region in the framework of the so-called 2K Project, the 2 Ks standing for Klaipeda and Kaliningrad.
The working group of the Kaliningrad and Klaipeda port authorities has held two session which defined the spheres of mutual interests and discussed navigation safety, cooperation in rescue operations at sea, ecological and humanitarian projects, and the international 2K Project Managing Committee.

PILOTS PROTEST DEDPRIVATISATION OF PILOT SERVICES AT THE PORTS OF RUSSIA
On the 01 of August 2001, the Government of Russia has published Decree N 538 "On the activity of non state pilot companies." According to this Decree, the activity of self-administrative non-state pilot's companies at the main ports of Russia - Saint-Petersburg, Murmansk, Novorossiysk and Kaliningrad- is forbidden.
