Chinese Dredging Contractor in Bronka
China Communications Construction Company has won a dredging contract for 2015 in Bronka, a port project under construction in St. Petersburg area. Before that the dredging partner was Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V.
The change of the contractor was most likely due to political and economic reasons, an industry source told SeaNews. CCCC has not answered the question on the contract amount e-mailed yesterday – probably, due to the Lunar Year celebrations. Rosmorport head office told SeaNews that the contract amount with the general contractor BaltStroy remains unchanged, and BaltStroy has a right to choose subcontractors independently. The state contract with BaltStroy is worth 10.83 bn rubles. The contract currency for the dredging agreement with CCCC is US dollar, a spokesperson for Fenix told SeaNews. The parties do not disclose the price per cubic meter.
According to the general contractor BaltStroy, it is planned to deploy some 20 vessels, including unique ones. The volume of dredging in 2015 will exceed 13 mn cbm, the entrance channel and port basin depth will make 14.4 m. BaltStroy says, CCCC has now started preparing the fleet and equipment for the transit to the Baltic. The work is to start in April 2015.
