Plan Fixing Maersk Style

17 June 2011, 19:19 / SeaNews / Rating: 5108

Maersk line suggests shippers should plan contracts for three years. Are car manufacturers prepared to follow the new container market trend? – asked the Automotive Logistics Russia audience Alexander Goloviznin, deputy CEO of Ust-Luga Company JSC.

The discussion that resulted was summed up by Anna Vorobioba, Director, Logistics, MAN. ‘If shipping companies are prepared to share their development and freight rate plans with us, we will gladly support this trend. But so far we are forced to use as a guidance the market trend, which is changing too often, practically, every day’.

A British delegate told SeaNews that in Europe contracts with logistics companies are concluded for three years, but the operator’s responsibilities is over as soon as the shipment crosses the Russian border. There a local division is responsible for the supply chain, and nobody cares how often the rates change. Additional freight rate agreements can be signed every day.
