Speaking about an opportunity to direct the line of the Baltic pipeline system-2 from Primorsk to Ust-Luga, the head of Transneft pointed out some difficulties, including silting of the access dust of Ust-Luga, and he said that it would cost too much to look after the channel. Transneft, the Russian state oil pipeline company, is considering a revolutionary plan to fix pipeline tariffs in such a way as to free Russian oil exporters to choose the direction of their shipments, towards Europe or Asia, depending on which regional markets offer the best prices. The move, which the Kremlin should accept next month, comes as President Vladimir Putin signed in Athens yesterday his personal commitment to building a new pipeline for Russian crude exports southwards through the Balkans to a new tanker terminal at Alexandropoulos, on the Aegean.
