Kalmar Industries, the Scandinavian container handling equipment maker, will use its recently opened $10m Shanghai assembly plant as the cornerstone of a significant sales drive in Asia for terminal tractors, rubber-tyred gantry cranes and similar equipment, reports Lloyds List.
The factory, in the Lingang industrial park on the mainland side of a 32.5 km bridge connecting to Yangshan deepwater container port, will produce Kalmar-badged terminal tractors, RTGs, empty container lift trucks and reachstackers.

China's Tianjin port will see its cargo handling capacity soar by 1.7 mn TEU in early 2007 when a new terminal, the Tianjin Port Alliance International Container Terminal, is expected to commence operations.
The new box terminal is situated in the city's Beijiang port area.

In January-June 2006 the throughput of Vladivostok Fishery Port JSC made 326 th.tons and 210.6 cubic meters.
The port significantly increased the timber and container handling volumes (+40% year-on-year).

It is planned to purchase 3 Kondor 40 tons capacity gantry cranes, two 25 and 32 tons capacity forklifts of Kalmar, 8 grain clam shells and 2 fire plugs.
The price of the new equipment has not been revealed so far.
