During the session of the Russian-Iranian work group devoted to the development of the transport corridor North-South Alexandr Davydenko, the head of the Federal Sea and River Transport Agency, announced that the RF Ministry of Transport intends to have invested about 40 bn rubles in the building of the port Olya by the year of 2010.
It is stressed that 700 mn rubles were laid in the federal budget of the current year to build the port.

In January-November 2006 the stevedores of the Astrakhan port complex decreased their handling volumes by 11.3% year-on-year to 4,326.4 th.tons (Olya port handled 330 th.tons).
Bulk oil handling was down 18.5% to 649.3 th.tons, sulfur - by 35.4% to 938.1 th.tons, saw timber - by 17.7% to 303.6 th.tons, grains - by 27.7% to 17.2 th.tons.
The port increased the metals, roro cargo, foodstuffs and containers by 5.8% (to 1,941.1 th.tons), 52.8% to 32.4 th.tons, 51.4% to 32.4 th.tons and 0.2% to 88.3 th.tons respectively.
In November the throughput of Olya and Astrakhan ports made 361.6 th.tons having decreased by 27.1% month-on-month.

In January-October 2006 the stevedores of the Astrakhan transport sector decreased their handling volumes by 10% year-on-year to 3,664.8 th.tons.
The port reduced the export and cabotage volumes by 6.1% and 34.3% respectively.
