A Dubai-based owner has been forced to shall out $100,000 as a ransom to secure the release of its vessel which was hijacked off Somalia almost four weeks ago, reports TradeWinds.
The 3,742-gt general cargo vessel "Mariam Queen" was released on the weekend having been held by Somali pirates since 3 May.
A spokesperson for the vessel's owner, Al Hufoof Shipping, confirmed that it had paid "around $100,000" to have the vessel released.
