Nasdaq Stock Market Inc said as many as 12 shipowners plan to sell shares to the public this year on the New York-based market, seeking to finance purchases of vessels to take advantage of near-record freight rates.'There will be at least two floating in the next six to eight weeks,' Charlotte Crosswell, head of Nasdaq International, said in an interview last week at the annual meeting of the International Association of Independent Tanker Owners in Athens. 'It's rare to find so many companies within a single sector that gets so much interest.' The share sales would more than double the number of shipping companies traded on Nasdaq.
