French liner shipping giant CMA CGM has posted strong results for 2006, despite overcapacity fears, pressure on freight rates and higher bunker prices.
Turnover grew by 33% to ˆ6.68Bn ($8.92Bn), reflecting the sustained increase in volumes carried and the contribution made by West African liner specialist Delmas, which was acquired from the Bollore Group in 2005.
The net result was up 5% at ˆ485M as the number of boxes carried grew from 4.67M to 5.98M.

Another bulk carrier is aground off Spain as severe weather produced another casualty.
The 43,000-dwt "Ocean Globe" (built 1995) is carrying a cargo of 38,000 tons of coal but salvage efforts are focussed on removing the 600 tons of bunkers to prevent an oil spill.
